FLEECE AND WOOL
Sheepskins
We value the high quality of our flock and select our ewes and rams to produce specific desired qualities. As well as delicious, tender meat, our breed choices produce beautiful, soft fleeces in a variety of cream, black and brown colours. The pure Jacob flock provides us with mixed coloured fleeces, whilst the Lleyns are all cream and the Jacob cross are a lovely rich brown.
These fleeces are available for sale at £85.
Please contact for availability or to view the selection of colours on offer.
Products for sale can also be viewed and purchased through our Etsy shop - FleecetoFibre.
Wool
Types of wool and costs:
Each May, when our flock is sheared, the fleece from the Jacob shearlings is hand-spun and used for weaving scarves and blankets, as well as various knitted and crochet items. This wool is from the first time the sheep is shorn so it is the softest and has the longest length of staple. Fleeces from these animals are available to purchase at £10 per fleece, which will produce about 1kg of yarn.
Fleeces from our shearling Lleyns are sent to Blacker yarns to be washed and carded into worsted and woollen tops. These fibres can be used for felting, as well as spinning and dyeing, and are available to purchase at £5 per 100g.
Dorset lambswool tops can also be purchased at £5 per 100g. This type of wool is suitable for spinning, weaving, felting and dying.
Dorset lambswool fleece is available a £5 per kilo (producing around 500g of yarn).
Please contact Karen if you would like more information about the wool available, or to learn about which type would be best for your project.
